Stuart,
Welcome to the Garden Helper's Forum.
We have a really great bunch of gardeners here. All able to answer your questions!!!
We have alot of fun here. And an excellant bunch to chat with too!!!
Alot of perennials are one time bloomers, ei; spring, summer, fall, etc.
You'll see the rhodendron bloom in the early spring, then set the flowers (buds) for the following year. It will remain green through out the year. Same for Azalea's...........
I'm not familiar with the passion flowers.
As it's not in my zone.
But, mostly you grow the perennials for several factors, *not much maintenance as far as dead~heading, and constant watching.
And you basically purchase it once and not again, (not like annuals) And a person just falls in Love with the flowers...........
Alot of times, after the flower falls off, gardeners start to rely on the plants foliage. Once you get into gardening, you'll appreciate the extra interests.......
How did you get into gardening???
To fill in with some colors (annuals) would be a small help. Lot's of dead heading, and care. Depends on your style of gardening.

What do you like for flowers, or perennials, bushes, shrubs? Just curious!!

Hope this helps,
Happy Gardening!!!
Weezie
