The weather here in Iowa has gotten fairly chilly off and on lately, but I went ahead and planted bulbs this past Sunday. [perplexed] Hopefully it was not a mistake, meant to get them in sooner but was in San Francisco for a week and then fought a miserable cold for a week, so this past weekend was the soonest I could get to it. I planted around 300 of tulips, crocus, hyacinth, muscari, daffodil, and scilla. We got down to 34 degrees overnight last night but it is supposed to warm up nicely by the weekend. Has anyone in zone 4-5 planted bulbs this late and had them survive? I've never planted any before and didn't think I could wait and plant them in spring, so it was now or never. [dunno]

Thank you ladies, I feel better now! [Wink]

As for what type, Weezie, other than the list above of what I planted, I would have to look at the packaging again to tell you exact names....and that's at home in the garage right now and I'm at work. There's quite a mixture of tulips, white, pink and purple hyacinths, same with the scilla, and white daffodils with pink centers. Other than that, all I can tell you is that I bought them at Menard's and they all came from Holland [flower]

Yep, Those should be fine! [thumb]
As long as the grounds not frozen.
They should do fine.
Throw some leaf mulch over them after
the ground is frozen if you're really worried about them, that'll give them a nice
blanket for winter and great for spring
as a mulch.

they will be fine, with this warm weather we've been getting we will be lucky if they don't start to grow, remember last year when the trees budded in january? that was so weird.

speaking of crazy weather, i was doing some fall cleanup in my garden and i found some sugar peas growing, they are about 3 inches tall. i was so tickled to see some life in my garden, i still have some onions growing. i wonder how big my little peas will get before the snow flies.

Wow! That's kinda neat! Wonder WHEN the snow will start flying. This past weekend with the record high temps was wonderful! I got a lot done outside as far as fall cleanup! Even mowed the lawn in shorts and tank top! [Wink] This week is supposed to be fairly warm yet, and believe me, I am NOT looking forward to the long cold winter! [shocked] I dug up my cannas, and there appeared to be a lot of small shoots preparing to poke through the ground, even though the tops had all turned brown and wilted. Hope I didn't dig them too soon!

it got down right hot the last couple of days didn't it. i'll sure take it though.
it it hard to tell what to do with your bulbs they should be ok. they might think its spring and start growing.
this week end is supposed to be cold again. i knew it wouldn't last.

It got up to 40 yesterday and I took advantage of it and planted some bulbs. It was beautiful outside, especially since the day before was in the lower 30's with wind and it was just a damp cold. I had planted some tulips the 1st of October and a couple of them were starting to peek out of the ground. Is this going to be a problem? This morning I woke up to a white cover of snow and we're supposed to get up to 6" [clappy] At least the bulbs I put in the ground yesterday are getting some moisture! I just hope the others survive.

We are getting snow!!! Visability is bad right now. It's coming down really good and I hope it keeps it up for quite a while! I work at the airport and the visability is bad. Can't see across the ramp where the planes park. We have a chance of snow again tomorrow. Winter's here!!!! It's crazy because Saturday was cold as all get out, yesterday turned out to be beautiful in the lower 40's and today it's cold and snowing.

That's like our weather here in Western New York,
Buffalo area as everyone hear's on the news,
It's a common funny around here,
"You don't like our weather?,
stick around 5 minutes, it'll change"
One minute it's so cold, the next it's
in the 60's, to frosts' that night...
Crazy!!!!
But, that gives us all the more reason to
stay indoors and read about gardening!!!
