I've got several large hydrangea's growing in front of the house that can be quite dramatic and beautiful...when they flower. The problem is that each year, the flowering bit is an iffy propisition. I know that flowers on hydrangea bushes grow only on new growth...but thats kinda vague...does anyone know what time of year I should be pruning these bushes to maximize flower growth the next year? Also, just how much do I prune? I live in Central Florida.

Most types of Hydrangea should be pruned in late fall or early spring. The entire plant may be cut back to the ground if it becomes to large, because it will quickly regrow to it's prior size, and begin blooming again.
