Two years ago I purchased an old home from an estate sale. The landscape was very overgrown and I have worked for the past two summers cleaning it up. I discovered a grape arbor in the back yard that had overtaken the entire backyard; up through the trees and over the top of the house. I do not have a green thumb, but I would like to see this grape arbor flourish; however, the first year I was not able to get to the backyard cleanup and the vines grew like crazy and were loaded with grapes. One day that summer I notices that all of the leaves on the vines had big bumps on the back of the leaves and within three days all of the grapes had turned brown and dried up. The entire plant shriveled up to nothing. The second year the vines grew again all over the yard and it is covered with grapes. As I worked on cleaning it up, I cut everything back until the grapes only grew on the arbor itself. I noticed a few bugs and I didn't want to get those bumps on the leaves back so I sprayed it, so far twice, with malathon. The grapes seemed to be doing fine, then two weeks after I sprayed something strange is happening. The leaves on the vine look fine; however, the grapes appear to have gone to seed, I mean everywhere there was a grape now looks like flowered rabbit ears, there are some grapes still on the vine but they crumble in my hand to the touch. I would like to save these grapes but I don't know what to do.

Are you planning on eating those grapes???? Malathion is very toxic. Read the label if you plan on eating them. Sorry couldn't help with the plant. Catlover

Of course I am planning on using the grapes. I think I'd like to make wine. The malathion label says for grapes do not apply later than 3 days before harvest.
