My mealy bugs are white. Are you thinking about scales. There are many varieties of both. Catlover

They could be spider mites. sevin dust or sevin spray "ought to do them in". The spray would probably be more effective if they are under the leaves or attached to the stem.

Floweraddict I thought spider mites were red in color. The ones that try and attack my tomatoes are red. Catlover

These are black tiny bugs, soft cause I can smosh them, and there on my shasta daisy leaves. They look like they might be eggs, after all cause I didnt see them move.

Im going to try soap and water again, maybe a little baking soda. What do you think. Something has to work.

Shareen,
Aphids can be black, green and orange and a couple shades of other stuff in between.
Aphids are soft bodies....
Scale on the other hand can be black too, but that's in the adult stage and have a hard shell shaped like...... a turtle???......
Hope that helps...????

Weezie F.Y.I. scale can have soft shells also. Was reading about them and there are many different kinds just like with the aphids. This is great, everytime someone has a problem I start looking up info on the subject. Learning a lot since joining this forum. Love it! Spending so much time on this my daughter 19 is calling me a computer geek!!!! Just learned how to use the computer a few months ago. WATCH OUT!!!! Catlover

Karen,
I too do the same, I know alot but forget as much and learn alot from questions, that's half the reason I enjoy this site so much.
Testing my memory here: You are correct that scale has soft shells too but I believe when they are the soft shell they are greenish color (light color, blend in with the stem or leaf color) and they have some type of legs that allow them movement. Then in the adult stage they loose the ability of their legs and then turn a hard shell and no movement and then are the black and or dark color.
Thanks for the for all your input!!!!!!!
