I've tried non earth friendly pesticide and later I tried soapy water on some mini roses. Doesn't seem to have any effect, the aphids continue pigging out. I'd appreciate any advice. s_segdwick@hotmail.comPlants: 2 | From: Austin, TX | Registered: Apr 2003

Hey! We were just talking about this over in gardener's chat. I've got rosebuds showing on the bushes outside, so I know the little buggers are out there...lurking...!!!!

Try lady bugs the love them. find a place that sells them. put them in your garden and the will do the pigging out not the aphids.

Sometimes aphids can be because we use too much nitrogen...it's that fresh green growth they are going after, cut back a tad bit???? And or a sick plant (emits a chemical and that's what draws animals like that to the plant.) I personally do not like any chemicals. So I can't offer any info on that. If all else fails go squish them by hand until you find something. But sometimes if you catch 'em early enough you can keep the numbers down. Spray the hose the plant down with water after the good squishing, this kills most left over bugs and cleans the plant up a bit... Just be vigilant!!!!

I had the same problem last year ;so, i know what u r going through! Yes, the lady bugs were there, but in no way could stop the infestaion. I tried one chemical product (can't remember the name),but it didn't work at all. I even doubled, and triple the dose--- still nothing! Finally, i used Sevin Concentrate Bug Killer (by Garden Tech). http://www.gardening123.com/productInfo/sevin/productDetails.asp?TM=3&UPCIDGr=2&Info=1&iUPCID=
When using it,make sure it isn't going to rain for a few days, so the insects have maximum exposure to the chemical. If it's an infestation, u might have to go back and spray again (to kill those hatched from the eggs). My philosophy is this... yes, u may kill some good insects, but my neighbors, who DON'T give a rip and DON'T control insect populations in their gardens will more than make up for the carnage...
