Salutations to all gardeners! New here, tried other forums but am still at a loss. Hope someone can help. I purchased a Silverleaf Dogwood last spring & it appeared to settle in well at first, but soon developed brown spots on all of its leaves. During a follow-up visit to the nursery I discovered that all of their dogwoods appeared the same. I was told that it was stress. Is it possible for all to suffer the same or is it more likely to be fungal? We had a heat wave last summer & I believe I erred in it's placement (full sun). Should I move it to an area that offers part shade, if so, when? Any suggestions or thoughts I'd be ever so thankful. -garden_addict

Hi, I was wondering where in Canada you live? I am from BC and we have a terrible problem here with dogwoods, they get anthracnose quite readily. Anthracnose is fungal and can be treated by using dormant spray now and then following up with benomyl or copper spray later in the season if the leaves are still showing signs of the disease. You should be sure to pick off any affected leaves and throw them away or burn them but do not put them in your compost. You should also do as you intended and move the dogwood to a partially shaded area. Hope this helps Plants: 16 | From: British Columbia, Canada | Registered: Jan 2003
