I would like to plant two evergreen shrubs in my north-facing garden which sits up against the side of my garage. Very shady. Bulbs, hostas, lilies, etc typically take three more weeks to bloom. All evergreens I like ie. Spruce, juniper seem to want full sun. Is this a real problem or will it just grow more slowly? Any suggestions? I am still new at this, please bear with me.

I have been having the exact same dilemma; I wanted some evergreen shrubs for my shady front yard. Although I can't tell you as of yet how well they are going to do, I just planted a couple of yew shrubs; all the information I found stated they were good in part sun/shade. This may be your answer as well. You may want to check back in a few weeks to see how mine have done, though!

Hi, new to the board, I am a northern gardener also, with the same situation. I have creeping junipers, sprawling cedars, globe cedars and two upright junipers and they are all doing fine. I am facing north and they do get enough sun (5-6 hrs) they just do not grow as fast as they would in full sun. Just buy larger specimans.
