Last fall I planted a small red dogwood in the yard. In checking, it made it through the winter but has not bloomed. I have noticed other dogwoods in the area are in bloom. Does anyone know if my little tree still adjusting to its new home or does it need to grow to a certain height before flowering? Plants: 5 | From: West Virginia | Registered: Apr 2003

Yes, they do need to reach a certain height before flowering. I put three in our yard several years ago. Two of them grew quickly and began flowering (just a few flowers at first) when they reached about six feet. The other one was in a tough area and struggled there for many years, but just this year reached six feet and had its first few blooms. Be patient. They'll get there, and it'll be worth the wait.
