I have just received my seed potatoes, how do I stop them sprouting until next March. Do I keep them in the dark and cool or do I keep them in the light and cool. Could do with some help on this one as they were not cheap and I do not want them sprouting before it is time to plant them. Plants: 2 | From: UK | Registered: Dec 2002

Hi Alan....your right....they aren't cheep. Store them in a dark, dry, cool place. The basement will do. Potatoes need to breathe, so don't pile them more than 6 inches (15cm) high and try to use containers that let air circulate. Check on them every month and use the early sprouters first. Discard any that are shrivelled or decaying.
