Hi everyone! I'm back with yet another question. I got a bunch of Jalepeno peppers from a generous neighbor and I do appreciate them bunches. My question is can I dry some to make pepper flakes for seasoning? If I can how would I go about it? Plants: 4 | From: Lynwood Il | Registered: Apr 2003

Bridget, I grew a ton of them too, and sent them over to my neighbor, she fries them up in dishes, and makes a relish out of them.
It was actually fun giving them to a neighbor who appreciated them instead of looking at me like, "You want me to EAT THIS HOT THING??" She looked forward to the deliveries.
I make a salsa out of them, but as much as I like them hot, I barely use 2 to a fresh batch!! Weezie's Salsa Recipe (Scroll down about half way and the "recipe" is there. Mine are never exact science, I make them up as I go!! But will give you a basic rule of thumb)

P.S. Don't know if anyone knows how for the flakes, maybe Papito or Flower, she's done some salsa.
Are you close to Calumet City??? I have relatives there. And Hammond, Ind. Just curious. We have another member too, Bunny, he's from a place called Joliet.....

just lay them out on newspaper to dry for about a week or so.i guess would depend on weather.I did to cayennes but know would be the same exceppt for size of pepper.I put them in a salt shaker& use in cooking and what not.save some seeds and grow some.seeds have more heat than the pepper good to cook with too ever stuff some?yummy a good one is cream cheeses inside wrap with bacon and toothpick that and dip in beer batter and fry that baby right up.a great appetizer or even a meal if ya do up enough.i love um so have to do the large ones for me and 5 is an appitizer for me. I have two friends that dry chiles and they do it two different ways. One does it on the bbq, low heat and then packages them up in ziplocs and freezes. I think they mainly use them cut up in cooking along the year, more roasting than drying. The other does it in the oven, low heat for a long time until they dry out. He then crushes the chiles and puts them in a shaker. Good luck. One thing I know for sure is watch out for the seeds and you might want to wear gloves when handling. Those little seeds and oils can get on your hands, then you wipe your face or eyes YIKES, that's making me cry just thinking about it.
