I have 2 kimberly queen ferns that need to come in for the winter. they have been pretty well neglected for the last few months and now have dead fronds mixed with the live ones. Can I just cut it back hard (maybe even a little at a time) to get rid of the mess? [dunno]

Jiffy,

If more than half of the fronds are dead, then it might be best to cut off all of the fronds within an inch or so of the soil. The new growth will be better adapted to the indoor environment. Otherwise, you could prune out the dead fronds and hope the remaining live fronds adapt to the indoors.
