Hello. I'm new here to your site. I found the site while searching for information on ferns. I believe I have a Nephrolepis exaltata (Can Can)fern. Does anyone know if it cutting it back will kill it? The fern itself is about 4-5 feet in diameter.

Hello Ameryca696,
[wayey]

Welcome to The Garden Helpers Forum!!
Glad to have you here!!!

First off I just wanted to let you know
I moved your post here, so that when one
of our gardeners comes through, they'll be
able to find your answer in a specific area,
and be able to answer it a bit faster, if we
have anyone that knows about this plant,
I for one don't, sounds very pretty!!!!!!!! [flower]
I'm thinking maybe Bill or Papito might know, so, be patient, give them a bit to come through...

In the mean time, sit back and enjoy some good reading here, Bill's got alot of great info accumalated here at the site, for just about every plant. There's alot of sections here to wander through. Feel free to post a question any where's along the line.....
We have a new Crafts, Creativity and Hobbies section, and a Banter Hall for chatting......

There's alot of great gardeners here, from beginners to Master Gardeners and everything in between....

Weezie

Hello Weezie. Thank you for giving me such a warm welcome here! I've always loved to garden, but have never had a yard of my own. I'm not a big gardener, I just have a few house-plants. Other than my fern, I also have two viney-type plants. They have green leaves, white leaves and green and white leaves, but I have no idea what they are. I cut back the fern and two viney plants the other night. The viney plants, I am pretty sure will come back without a problem. I bought them this past June and in July, they took off. When I bought them, they were about a foot and a half long. When I cut them back, they were over eight feet long. I didn't expect them to take off like that so well. I talked to some people here @ work and was told that cutting both the viney-type plant and the fern were okay. It was confirmed that the viney plant will take off again as will the fern. Other than those 3 plants, I have a mixture of sorts that was given to me when I had my son. Every once in awhile, it starts to die, but I seem to bring it back without a problem.

Well, Ameryca696, [wayey]
I am glad to hear that all will be well..
If you can send in a small picture of the viney plant to Bill, maybe we can tell you what it is..
Post it in the Mystery section... We love to see who can figure it out first!!!
It sounds like some kind of variegated something or other...with those color leaves..

Do you plan on doing any more gardening??

If you keep coming back here, you're
bound to catch our gardening bug!!!
It's soooooooooo contagious around here. [thumb]
The enthusiasm abounds around here when
we talk plants, gardens and flowers!!!!
And planting, compost and dirt, well that's
a whole different subject we like to talk about.

We like to help any way we can, and if you know a answer feel free to answer away.
Don't forget the Banter Hall, that's our Chat area. [gabby]
And keep us posted on your future gardening endevours... We do so like to hear about them, and all of the ideas you like or have seen.
Or if we can come up with something for you....
And something you post, may give another gardener an idea all of their own. [thinker]

Are you in the area of one of our forum hostesses, Loz? She's in Maryland as well.
We have a few others from there too, KATHIE and Oh, I can't think this morning, brains gone,
IT'S TOO COLD HERE TO THINK THIS MORNING!!! [scaredy] [shocked]
Did you get hit with the winds and yicky weather?

Weezie

Your viney plant sounds an awful lot like a pothos. A wonderful plant to grow, very hard to kill and it's easy to make new ones from the cuttings, just stick 'em in water and let them grow roots.

Does it look like this at all?
Pothos
