I have a parlor palm that has been in my family for 23 years. The problem is the stalks or stems are very skinny in some places and normal in others. If I was to cut it back at the skinny parts of the stem, do you think the plant would come back? Does anyone know what would cause this problem? thanks

I can't answer your question, but, wait, other members will come along soon. Are the thin stems from the base of the plant? How long are the leaves? 1-1/2 to 2 feet?, 2-1/2 to 3 feet? Houseplant or outdoor plant?
I personally do not grow them, so I can't help you either, but I know others will swing through and offer some advise....

You should be able to thin out some of the weaker stalks.....but only a third of them. Fertilize monthy during active growth. This is best done in the spring.
I am confused by your description of stems that are thin at some points, but not at others. Can you post a photo here or e-mail one to me at my address below.
