Hello I just wanted to ask anyone who would know if I should repot my Jade plant or not. I re-potted my jade plant and it doesn't look healthy. The leaves are shriveling up and it is limp and can barely hold itself up. Did I water it too much. How is the soil supposed to be? I kinda packed the soil down which I don't think I was supposed to do.....Can anyone help.?

Hi Mattew! I have a 10 yr old Jade that has only been repotted once in all those years. It seems that the less I mess with it the happier it is with me. I have it potted in a half cactus, half regular potting mix which has worked pretty well. I pack the soil good but not too much, mainly so it will stay upright in the pot. It does sound like you may have given it too much water. Mine did the same thing when I brought it indoors for the winter. They dry out much quicker inside and I'm a heavy handed waterer anyways. It is a succulent so it will definately survive with less water. Hope I was some help to you!

I don't know if this advice is coming too late, but I've been pretty successful with my jade plants so I figured I'd throw in my two cents.

Jade plants like to be shocked. I let the soil on my jade get completely dry before I water it again, and I occasionally deprive it of water even after the soil has been dry for a while. You can tell your Jade really needs water when the leaves get a bit squishy. I am a bit less stingy with water during the growing months (which have passed now), but am always careful not to over water.

I had to repot my jade about 6 months ago, and I put it in a pot with gravel in the bottom to help with drainage, and I mixed 50% miracle grow potting soil with 50% medium builder's sand. I did not pack the soil at all. Water drains from the soil rather quickly, which is perfect.

When I first repotted my Jade I was even more sparing with water than I usually am, in order to force it to establish roots in the new soil. My jade has since quadrupled in size, so I guess my plan worked. [Smile]

Hope that helps.
