My son gave me a ponytail palm for Mother's Day that he planted himself. I have no idea how to care for this plant and I would feel horrible if I killed it. It is a beautiful plant if properly cared for, and since this is a new plant I want it to become as beautiful as it can. PLEASE HELP!!! georgia_rain420@yahoo.com

Ponytail palms must be potted in small pots that are only slightly wider than the bulb out of which the stem grows. Only the bottom quarter of the bulb should be below the soil or the bulb will rot. The soil must be very porous with lots of perlite in it so that the soil doesn't stay wet for very long.
I hope that your son understood all of this when he planted it for you. If not, then your ponytail will have problems no matter what else you do.
Ponytails do best in lots of bright light. Always allow the soil to get very dry before watering thoroughly. Fertilize very sparingly or not at all.
