hi,
I have managed to grow a small garden [Confused] in my patio.I have an orange asian-lily, a gerbera daisy, few mums and 3 miniature roses.
1.The problem is the rose plants are turning brown. There are no leaves & the entire plant is drying. I dont see new growth anywhere? What is wrong? What should I do? [perplexed] Winter will set in soon. How should I cut the branches/stem for new growth?
2.The asiatic-lily bloomed 2 weeks ago. The plant looks healthy. How should I take care of this plant during winter?
3.How should I take care of the mums and gerbera daisy during winter & otherwise? [thinker]
All the plants are potted in 8" planters and I use miracle-gro every 2 weeks.
Tx. [Smile]

I might be able to help some with your roses. I'm assuming you are in Sunnyvale, Ca., do you get frost there? Here is some info I found on mini's...

http://www.blitzworld.com/roses/growing-hints.htm
http://www.johnsminiatureroses.com

John's miniatures has some info on pruning too. Normally I don't cut my roses back until the first week in Jan. but I don't get much frost if we get any at all. Then when I do prune them, I cut back until the first stem that has a branch with five leaves on it. Then in the spring you will get all sorts of new growth, red leaves at first that turn to green. I don't have any mini's, I've never had much luck with them. You will need to stop feeding them soon, if not now depending on your zone. Its time for them to go to sleep. [sleepy]

I hope that info helps. I don't know anything about lily's so I won't even guess at that one. On the mums, there is a really good post somewhere in the forum on overwintering mums. Do a forum search and it should pop up. The forum search button is in little print underneath the garden search button. Good luck and check back often. We're a happy bunch of gardeners around here that just love to chat. [gabby]

Happy gardening! [wayey]

Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

I'm zone 8b TX I grow gerber& mums both
my gerbers bloom yr round for me but when comes a frost i just lay a 2 layer of newspaper over them& uncover in the morning...if its blooming and frost it shortens the bloom.I like mine just fine blooming for 6 weeks at a time yr round.they are containered& move around all the time it seems
mums.grow in full sun cut them back in spring and again in july so not floppy.if grow in shade may bloom bout yr round.if not in ground just move up under eves, but if are calif don't guess you'd have trouble with alot of rain.I have one in concrete planter& the rest are in ground.what color you have?whats your bloom look like?I have a purple pom& a pinkish daisy burgandy pom and orange& yellow daisy type.just don't see them spider types around here.
astic lily is a bulb.it should be fine
