Hi everyone! Has anyone grown Lisianthus? This is my 3rd year & they are just beautiful! This year I have 6 different colors. Lisianthus is an annual & blooms all summer long, can be used for cut flower arrangements beds & borders & looks like beautiful roses! They grow on very sturdy stems, about 12"-16" in height, with many flowers. I still stake the stems though as when they are full with flowers I don't want to chance them falling over. They prefer moist, well drained soil & are very heat tolerant. They also need sun-part shade. If you haven't given them a try...do so. You will admire them so much & so will those that see them in your gardens. Good luck!

Hi Kathie,no, i have never grown Lisianthus before. Frankly,i didn't know what it looked like until i looked it up a while ago. that's a very pretty flowering plant!I did a little reading on it. I noticed it is a native prairie wild flower. I wonder if it could be grown in the souteast (zone 7)? I also read that it takes about 4 months for the plant to achieve the flowering stage. Does that hold true for u, from your experience with it? Pretty flower! Thanks for sharing that with us! Gardendreamer03@aol.com

I've grown it up here in the North East but it's an annual for us. (and expensive, not a common annual) I will start it by seed some day when I get my green house!!! VERY BEAUTIFUL FLOWER, almost like a rose shape and I grew the purple, I do think it comes in white and pink too!! Weezie

Floweraddict & Weezie, I live near Baltimore, Maryland & have never had a problem growing the Lisianthus so you shouldn't either. I bought my plants from a gardening center for $1.50 each. I plant them around Mother's Day & by the middle of June I have flowers on my plants that last all through the summer. As I mentioned, I have 6 different colors this year. Hope you grow them & enjoy them as much as I have. Kathie

Kathie, I grow them, just can't get them to over winter.... I am a zone 5 and believe they are a zone 6 or 7......... I should try them in my raised bed by the side of the house that has a stone wall, south exposure, 2 water tanks and 1 furnace, cement sidewalk next to it and a raised bed. I can over winter a dahlia there, believe it or not, but I had the Lisianthus in the back bed and it's regular zone 5 there. But they are a slendid flower. They have remained on my bestest list ever since I started gardening.... http://www.dontveter.com/howtogrow/eustgran.html Here's a site for some pictures of the flower and some tid~bits of information for everyone to read on.
