For propagating hydrangeas, u snip a piece of new growth off and dip the cut end in rooting hormone and place in a 50-50 mix of perlite and vermiculite.
Another way to propgate hydrangeas is through division, but don't dig up the entire shrub! Just slice off a section from the outside of the clump with a sharp spade.
Hope this info helps u a little!

What are brand names for rooting hormone. Went to Walmart to pick some up about 2 weeks ago...explained what it did...but four people in that dept. didn't have the slightest clue what I was talking about. Walked the aisles for an hour and couldn't find anything of that nature. What does the package say, is it a powder, etc...... Catlover

Rootone comes in a small (2" or so) red plastic jar w/ white print. Hormonex comes in a small white plastic jar w/green print. They are both powders. I've also had success with "B bomb", liquid vitamin B, as a rooting fertilizer...

I think it runs about $8. http://www.theurbangardenstore.com/products/mediums/mediums.htm It says it's good for rooting many varieties, such as geraniums, jasmine, willow, roses, gardenias, hydrangeas, phlox, raspberry, viburnum and many others...
