Wow, I just looked Haemanthus up in my Mynah Plant Book and is it ever fascinating! Here's what it says about cultivation:
"Plant these bulbs in fall or spring in part-shade in light but compost rich, well-drained soil. In wet summer climates or in well watered gardens it is best to grow the plants in pots and bring them under cover when the leaves wither." "Water and feed during the growing season, but keep deciduous species completely dry when dormant and evergreens dry but not parched. The plants are best left undisturbed for a few years, after which they can be propagated from offsets or from seed; either way the resulting plant will take a few years to flower."

So it sound like it needs almost amarillis-like care, and may take a few years to blossom anyway. Hope thihs helps. Sounds worth it!
