My husband asked me to cut the pampas grass back. I tried but is was to tough. A friend of mine told me she burned hers. My question is , is this as acceptable as cutting. Thanks

I usually use my small hand saw. I have an 8inch blade, I grab a hand full of reeds, grass or even my hosta and cut it down. I would think that burning it would damage the roots if you allowed it to burn all the way down. I'm sure if you were ready with the hose and stopped it before it hit ground level it might be all right. The ashes may even be beneficial to the soil. I'm not sure but I too would like to know if this is an acceptable way.

I saw mine, too, as Renee does. Since I often see the tops of the new growth when I cut it back, I would be wary of burning these and destroying them. Wear gloves when sawing these guys. They can really wear out your hands, otherwise.

A friend of mine has an abundance of pampas grass and burns hers once a season. It works great for her.
