We have a bay window in front of our house with nothing under the window to block out the cold. Could I use holly bushes, or do they grow too tall??

I love the look of Holly. There are so many different ones to choose from, even varigated ones. But choose carefully, many grow 20 feet and the Ilex altaclerensis grows to 70 feet! "China Girl" is compact, rounded, evergreen female shrub that grows 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide. The "Dwarf Burford" grows to 8 feet tall and the "Rotunda" is small at only 3-4 feet.

Grow hollies in a moist but well-drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil in full sun, or in partial shade. Planting or transplanting is best done in the spring. Prune to shape in early years only. Male and female flowers are usually born on separate plants, and both sexes are needed to produce fruits.

Good luck
