I have a black mulberry that has not been pruned for a long time. I understand that anything over 2" should not be pruned, but when is the best time to prune; and can we prune the top down?

do NOT prune back to stubs
prune out dead wood and crossing branches
prune back in january when it is dormant....you could cut it back and it would think was spring

I've never trimmed mine, but when ID them found info at an arizona hort class @ some collage...usually get most my info from TX A&M hort dept
