Hi,
I'm new on this forum. I am having problems with 3 of my plants which made me register at this site. I've posted all these questions in the same message. hope that's ok.
1. Jade Plant : I got this jade plant from a friend a year ago. When i got it, it was a single stem about an inch thick. It's now slightly thicker with small branches coming off the main stem. As it grew it started to get taller, but the side brances stayed small. About 3 months ago, it got top heavy and started to lean, now it has leaned over the pot and is almost touching the ground and it's starting to develop little roots all along the length of the plant that is leaning downwards. It's still looking pretty healthy. I want to save it before something bad happens. What should i do?

2. Jasmine plant : I bought an indoor jasmine plant about a year ago as a topiary. I took out the topiary wire, and made a trellis to go up to the ceiling. The plant climbed like crazy, but when it touched the ceiling, it got confused and got all kinky at the top. It didn't want to climb sideways, so i pruned it, but it kept doing the same thing. It hasn't bloomed all year. Now i am thinking maybe i should started over and cut it all the way back. Suggestions?

3. Hibiscus : My indoor hibiscus plant was doing great, but it started to get too big. In my effort to prune, I cut it all the way back about 4 months ago. It has since put out skinny long branches and it looks bigger than before, but no sign flowers. What did i do wrong? How can i fix this?

Thanks for all your help
Lalitha

ok, the only one I can help you with is the jade plant. first of all, they tend to lean, and nothing bad will happen. if you want the side branches to be thicker, cut the main branch back to just above one of the side branches and then stick the cut part in the soil up to the next side branch. you will end up with two plants. another way is to cover the middle of the main stem with soil over where the mini-roots are growing, and you will have more than one plant that way. Jades are wonderful and will bloom if left to grow long enough.

Hi Lalitha,

I'm not sure about the jasmine, but you could prune it by about half and let it try again.

A for the hibiscus, you probably cut off the buds when you pruned it. Give it time to recover.

I would suggest you add a tablespoon or two of milk (yup, the stuff we put in coffee) to the water and use that to water your plants about once a month. They will love the calcium and bloom better for you. You could also just add water to the milk container when you've used up the milk and water your plants with that. I do it with all my houseplants and they love it.

Good luck,
Newt

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
