Here in my zone 6b garden, I have tried without luck to grow delphiniums and lupines. The heat and humidity just destroy them...I have yet to have a single one ever return for a second year. I also love foxgloves, but I don't like having to replace them every couple of years. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to what reliably perennial spiked flower I can grow? It needs to be at least 3-5 feet tall.
How about liatris, lobelia cardinalis, kniphofia and Lobelia siphilitica? Also, there are several ornamental grasses that get that tall.

* * * * When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
