Yesterday evening Andy said he wanted prime rib and a baked potato for supper. We called every steak house in town, and none of them had prime rib. (When Andy lived in N.Y. he ate this all the time) So, I said instead of eating out I'd run to Kroger and get it. Put some potatoes in the oven to bake, started the charcoal on the grill, and hopped in the truck for a fast run to the store. There was NO meat product that said "Prime Rib" on it. I have never seen it in any store I go to, and no butcher was there to help me. I figure it must be called something else??? I opted for rib eyes, since the grill was already started.
I don't mean to sound stupid, but what piece of beef is a prime rib? I didn't eat red meat before I met Andy, so I don't know much about it. Is it called something else? If I ever find it, how the hell do I cook it?

Cindy, I'm running late, but wanted to tell you the exact name escapes me, but it's a roast your actually looking for, a good sized roast, you cook it in a roasting pan in the oven and cut it to the size portion you want, 1", 1 1/2" thick per piece..........
I've got to get in the shower to deliver meals on wheels for my mom today, so I'll be back, if I remember the exact name of the roast!!!

I didn't know that either Cindy, until a few years ago. You can also get a rib-eye roast, slice it up and you have rib-eye steaks. We like to make prime rib and rib-eye on the rotessierie- just set it and forget it! So easy and so tasty! Costco has the best meat around here and the best prices, that's where I ususally end up finding it.

If you have a Publix grocery store nearby, you might want to try them. They have precut and seasoned Prime Rib available. It is located next to the deli in the prepared meals section. We have had it a couple of times and it was great!

We have a Kroger and a Wal-Mart...that's IT!!! I looked at Wal-Mart today, and they didn't have it. Kroger probably won't, either. But, there is a tiny little grocery store here that used to have a butcher, don't know if they still do, but tomorrow I'm going to go there and see. If Andy wants prime rib, then nothing will stand in my way!!!! (Damn, I sound devoted, don't I?!!)

Ya know Cindy, I feel like a dunce, , I got to thinking about it during the course of the day, and I'm thinking, Standing Rib Roast, I'm like NO, that's not it, and I'm trying to think as I was driving Meals~on~Wheels, and it dawned on me, Prime Rib Roast!! DUH!!!!!! Talk about a brain~drain!! I was just in such a hurry to get out the door, and I don't eat meat either but worked in a restaurant for many years, I should know the name, like I know my own, um, er, what was my name again???????????
Weezie (Yeah, that's it!!!)
The one that says Perfect Roast (about 6 or 7 down) Looks like a pretty good standard one. Usually they are done with a ground pepper and course salt rub on the outter part!!!
Let us know how it turns out!!!
