I never really thought too much about if they would grow in other regions because they are a very popular tree in this area (zone 7). I tried to find out a little more for you but haven't had much luck. I did find out that they grow well in the San Francisco and Washington DC areas, but never mentions of further south. There were several references to hazards of hard, late frosts.?! I guess you'll have to check with a local nursery (unless someone else from Florida knows for sure) It is pretty rare for Flowering Plums to produce fruit, and when they do, the fruit is pretty much just more ornaments for the tree.
