Hi everyone [wayey] I feel very fortunate to have found this site My Question is about lambs ears,.. I was given some from an old neighbor in Kansas when I went home to visit, This was her first experience with them as well I planted them close to a wood fence on the west side of my home, they did quite well in the spring, however this summer was dry and hot here in Dallas, and I only have 2 good size ones left should I replant in the front yard that gets north/east light (Dallas ground Rarely Freezes) or just start over in the spring I really loved them!! Help! [angel]

Angelblossom,
Hello and Welcome to The Garden Helper's Forum,
we're very glad you found us...

First off, I'm going to let you know I'm going
to move your post into the PLANTS AND FLOWERS SECTION, I think you'll receive a few more responses into that section better for you question...

Also, I'm going to ask you...

Did you let your plant flower?
And the tall spikie parts are now dying,
or not as pretty??

Yes they did indeed flower some I pinched off and others I didn't; believe it or not I have one of each left: the lower leaves looked now like wilted lettuce. and the upper leaves are now droupping I really hate to loose these I've never seen them at a nursery here What can I do now

Well, why I ask about it flowering..
Once a lambsear flowers, it's pretty
much "blechville" for the plant afterwards..
But they do reseed prolifically *for me*
and are almost to the point of weeds for me...

But I am a zone 5 and may like it more colder/cooler than the heat of Texas..
I am not sure of how they react in heat
such as the temps' you've experienced this summer.

If you take you flower stalk and shake it around,
on top of the soil/dirt and they'll re~seed where you shake them..
and come fall you should see new babies there.

Mine just flop over and I never touch them..
One year they reseeded so badly, I had to
pull alot of them out as they were crowding out
someother plants..

And mine do well in shade and sun...
So, it's hard for me to say which for you..
I haven't found a place yet they haven't done
okay by!!!!

My motto is experiment..
Go to an area you want the plant to go..
scratch the surface dirt and open it up,
And take the flower stalk and give it a shake or two..

Take some 6 packs if you have them, fill with some dirt/soil and shake a bit over those and just put somewhere's where it's protected by freezing winds thru the winter.
And see if any sprout for you that way...

Then go back to where they were, and let the stalk fall over where it would have when it died,
and let it sit on top of the dirt/soil..

And see how it works out for you...
You may get alot, you may not get any..
if you get alot, see which way was easiest for you, and the plant..
And keep a check on where the plant was and see if new babies show up come spring time...

And good luck, and please let us know the [gabby] the out come, [critic] we [Cool] love to [gabby] hear about updates [critic] how it turned out [teacher] , and that's how we learn, good [angel] and bad [devil] let us know!

If you end up with any extra seeds I would love to try lambs ear here in Virginia. I'm not I think I have some portulaca that would withstand your summer. I'm not sure how it would bloom though. It usually likes to bloom after getting watered.
