I got some gorgeous Moulin Rouge sunflower seeds and didn't pay attention that they were annuals. I want to figure out how to harvest the seeds so I can have more next year. Can anyone help me? I have taken a flower off after it started to droop and dried it, but honestly I can't remember what the seeds look like to know if I am getting the right part. I love these things and sometimes when I let the dog outside I purposely walk down off the deck just to look at them. They are the only thing planted in my back yard right now until next year and they are just so beautiful to me.

On the flower picture you posted,
there's no seeds yet,
I think it's too young....

If you can, peak at it...
and see inside the circle,
you'll eventually start to
see the seeds form,
They're larger at the end that
is facing out towards you..
and pointy towards the inside or middle..

I think yours may be a slight color or
purple tinge to them too... also mostly
black and a stripe of white down the sides
I think...

I grew some of these, and the birds are just
devouring them, the little finches and tiny birds like that... they're havin' a ball..

If you want to make sure the birds aren't eating
them before you can get there, get some tule or those sacks that onions come in, and put it over the head and tie it up with a twist tie or something...

But make sure you see enough bee activity on
the flower first or you won't get any pollenated..
