I need advise on how to trim/cut a rosemary bush without killing it. I noticed from the market that sell rosemary herb that it was cut righ off the main branch (about 12-14 inches long). Also what is the right type of fertilizer to use for rosemary? Thanks.

Rosemary should be cut no more than 12 inches from the top, and never into old wood. If I'm cutting it for cooking I cut off about 4 inches from a few stems. If I'm cutting to keep it's size under control and to keep it growing vigorously I cut about 8 inches off the entire plant. It really isn't necessary to fertilize them since they prefer lean dry soil.
