Holy cow...that thing is huge! [shocked] Do you have to bring it indoors to overwinter? I bet it will be beautiful when it blooms for you.

I have a red epi. They are absolutely gorgeous when they bloom. When I first got mine it bloomed like crazy...about 20 blooms one year. I repotted it a few years ago, and it barely bloomed the next year. But it's back to blooming more this year. I think they bloom better when a little potbound.

I had read they bloom better when pot bound too on an epi forum........RIGHT after I had transplanted it to a larger pot.So being had done screwed with it.Had stuck it in the hanging pot its in.I am going to move it into a coir/spagum basket this winter though. Its in a mostly peat mix w a lil potting mix.So what do you have yours potted in?And I just learned the reddishness....its a good thing [thumb]

Tulsa it can take some cool temps, but they recomend protecting from frost or drastic temp drops.I cold GH it.I fed it a weak fertilizer over the winter& gave it none in June& after June I did a beer fertilizer It didn't grow much the 1st year, but I had it in a good bit of shade....almost deep shade. They can take a good bit of sun but have to watch with TX sun.so its shaded at least for the worst of the sun(the front of tree would actually be a better location) Here's a bud shot.

 -

Angel....If you look....You can see where your cutting broke from.It had been the longest piece at one time.Your divsion came from the back that was against tree.I kinda HOPE that every lil leaf thing gets buds and blooms cause would be TONS of flowers.

Don't forget to take lots of pix when it is in bloom so we can share. [Wink] So the bloom comes right off the leaf tip? I have absolutely no experience with any of the exotics so I'll ask lots of stoopid questions. lol!

Oh my goodness I finally found this topic I did a forum search [nutz] [lala] [Big Grin]
Njoynit DID send me some starts !! Her dog got ahold of one and chewed on it I broke it off where it was chewed and That top callused over and later I discovered a bud start too!!!( I wasn't sure if it was a bud or a new leaf start, Njoynit confirmed it to be a bud!!) I said it was that special Dog tongue juice that did the trick* Good Doggy * pats the dogs head*
[Big Grin] [Big Grin]
here is my bud today! - okay Njoynit,, next question..

the little black dot above the bud is that going to be another bud??

you'd have to watch and see...some of mine have 2 buds on tips.
 -

I switched its place with the ric rac cacti. We got about 8-9 inches of rain.it was a heavy rain at times(lost signal so played golf on PS2)one of the straps on pot broke so got one off another pot& have moved it& utilized a coat hanger (to keep the dog from reaching the leaves)
I can't wait for them blooms!I got me a bottle of Jack for the occasion [muggs]

Well.....I sleept in.....But went fishing..so I still missed it,but got like 4 buds left.I don't think the fragance lasts long.I just don't smell it after 5 am much, but the flowers do ok till the sun hits them about 2ish,but when was 93 they went early also so someone NORTH of me would fare better with blooms.I AM going to grow it on other side of tree next year.
