I have a 100 gallon pre formed pond I will be re useing again in my "in-progress" star flowerbed. What sized pot would be ideal to pot this sucker in when I get one?

ALSO anyone know any reasonable places to purchase?I've seen one for ranges in 20-45 buck$$Aroos.course if we go to lake lot In April.....I can just go in lake and bring one home.they are yellow& would suit me just fine(& the fisherman would be offering me their truck to move them all..lol)I have some white water lillys to add in from lake here when they sprout up(being my ducks ate mine.)
Anyone grow any water lotos here?what about any seeds?I hear their good for 5000 yrs.. [Big Grin] can even be harvetsed from arrangements& remove the paint& good to go.

Howdy Njoynit~
I grow lotus. The dwarf need at least a 10 inch pot but the bigger the better and the bigger lotus it really depends on the size of the tuber. The more room they have to grow the better they do. It is also best to not have any holes in the pot. They are vigorous growers and grow out of holes and into other parts of the pond.

I ordered some the other day from ewaterlily.com they are $18.95 a tuber but the shipping is expensive. bonniesplants.com is another reasonably priced site. Lotus are fragile in tuber form and the growing tips break easily. They will also rot quickly if damaged.

Lotus seeds are very hardy. I know of someone who is growing out seeds from a flower arrangement pod. Seeds have to be scarified and soaked in water to germinate. Seedlings take a lot of patience. If you want one to bloom for you this year then it is best to go with a tuber but if you don't mind it not blooming this year then go for the seeds.

I can send you some seeds if you want to try them.

Donna,I'd love to try some seeds.just give me some grow guides.I do have a 20 gallon pond on Deck& then got my lil minnow pond on porch and it has a pump that goes all the time.(the 20 gallon is a secondary dog wateringhole)

We filled in the old pond 13x20.(thats alot of dirt& was actually shoveling mud...it was raining while we filled it in).we started on the flowerbed(its now gone from star to sun.

That WAS alot of dirt!It wasn't so bad removeing it...I called friends& had a digging party& it wasn't raining!

Well,I got me a portion of a lotos seed pod& shared half of what I got with SIL.So I got 7 seeds.I have a small glass and think will add them in it& set on top of computer(warmth& if they R there....I'll check um more)

I'm scrapeing till see white and keeping them soaked in warm water changed repeatedly and not let get cloudy.I found a lotos seed fact sheet.
