Root Maggots and Epson Salt

Has anyone heard of using epson salt for root maggot problems?

I was planting my cabbage plants and called a local hardware store for a root maggot solution, and this is what he told me to try.

I tried it....put 2 tbsp of epson salt into each hole where I planted a cabbage plant. Now I'll wait and see if it works. [dunno]

Read the epson salt box.. I think it says tomatoes love it too..Does any one use it on Brussell sprouts/
