Just as the lettuce is ready to harvest, Mother Nature hit us with a left hook. Is there any hope for leaf lettuces after a hail storm? The large leaves are plastered to the ground, should I let them be until it dries up some? Any advice and encouragement would be appreciated. (sob!)

I can't give you any advice as I am a newbie as well but.... I feel for you!!!!!

I can imagine how that feels and I really hope your lettuce is going to be OK. I hope someone stops by and tells you they will be OK.

My lettuce is just getting to be eating height so I am crossinf my fingers the recent heavy rainsn don't continue!

waterlily,

My sympathy.
However, let them alone they may survive. Also in Indiania you can plant another crop right now . They can be planted clear up to freezing time...
We keep putting in new crops. Indoors also in the winter..

Dont cry......Good luck..

The plants themselves should be fine and will continue to grow and put out new leaves. If some of the leaf stalks are broken and the leaves lying on the ground, it's probably better to harvest and EAT them! [clappy]

Leave the root in the ground and just clean away any debris lettuce , they'll be back.

When I grow lettuce, I only eat the outter leaves,
and the plant continues' to produce for quite some time..
*I never chop it off horizontal to the ground and take the whole thing..*
but yes, you can keep growing lettuce in,
are you getting cooler temps right now??
If so, I'd start a new crop...as well....

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. :-) All is not lost, now that we've dried up a bit, things don't look too bad. I think I will put out another round of seeds, thanks for the suggestion.
