Does anyone grow dahlias? If so, has anyone heard of the Edna C. dahlia? Would love to hear from any dahlia people.

I don't grow any one specific type/name of a dahlia...
But last year I did some by seed, and I'm relatively new to seeds, but not gardening in general, and I tell you the seeds were alotttt
of fun.. alot more than I expected and simple and fun...
I'd do it again, but I couldn't find any seeds...
bummed..

I do over winter one dahlia here, in my growing zone 5 believe it or not... outside, at the base of my home, in a raised bed, with Southern exposure.. stone wall, cement sidewalk and two hot water tanks and a furnace in my basement...
It's a common, run of the mill one, but I have so enjoyed it, and it comes back every year....

Here's the only picture I have of my dahlia in my album, I'll have to find another better one...
but it's behind the arums *green and orange berries*, it's just starting to bloom in the summer..

My mother grew a very pretty pink one, and I wanna say it was some cactus type flowered one..
but sooooo pretty!!! [flower]

Hi Weezie !
Part of the reason I'm interested in the Edna C. dahlia, which can be seen online, is that the lady for whom it is named is my dear friend, Edna Comstock.
Her husband bred the Edna C. and it has won many awards over the years.
Edna is 93 now, and her late husband would be 103.
I enjoyed your post, and thank you.

Here is a webswite about the Edna C. dahlias.

http://www.dahlias.net/dahwebpg/Seedlings/Seedlings1.htm

Go there and read how to grow them. Down below is a picture of some of my plants that I am growing. If you look on the double tier set of lights in the front, on the bottom shelf are some dahlias that I am grwoing. There are more in the distance on the table with zinnias.

Thanks, Ironside ! Notice in he first paragraph
the Edna C. is mentioned right away?
The real Edna is about 4 feet away from me, falling asleep. She is now 93 years old. And a dear lady.

Your Very Welcome Deborah!
I love dahlias myself, and enjoy growing them from seed. Give Edna a hug and kiss from me! Tell her I love dahlias too. Take care and good luck!

I like the dahlias too. It is really neat to be friends with one named after them. How long has Ednas husband been gone?
I have dahlias in planters and take them in the basement in the fall. Last year they were late to come up and bloom. I think I will bring them upstairs next month to get them started earlier. If I can find room.

I gave Edna the hug and kiss and thank you !
Her husband, Paul Comstock, has been gone about 10 years. He would be 103 now.
He bred and developed the Edna C.
There is a sreet here in Encinitas that they named Dahlia Street many years ago.
Thnaks to both of you for your kind words. [angel]
