Foxtail Lilies (Eremurus)

Three years ago I planted a few Foxtail Lily bulbs. Each year the staplike foliage appears in early spring, then disappears in summer and I never get any blooms. Anyone else grow them? Any ideas why mine are not blooming? They are in well-drained soil in mostly sun.

I one question Alan,
How deep did you plant it??

Don't quote me on this,
but sometimes when you plant a bulb
too deep, it may survive, by growing
up to the surface, but never flowering
because it took all it's energy every year
JUST to get to the surface, none left
over for flower production.

They were selling them on the QVC from Roberta's Exotic's over the weekend,

Here's their directions for them...

plant 2' apart
place in full sun
water sufficiently to keep soil damp during growing season
fertilize during growing season;
discontinue use in winter dormancy
plant in spring; blooms mid to late summer
matures to height of 3' to 4'
perennial

I know they sell them on more occasions on that show In the Garden @ QVC, (I've got a link to them here, on another post. www.QVC.com is a direct link, look under Home Improvement or Gardening.)

They are so pretty!!!

Hope this Helps!

That gives some growing info.
Have you fertilized them?I do my bulbs a time released fertilizer and re apply mine every 3 months cause I water my plants.also when newly plant use bonemeal and some fish emulsion or the cheap imitation of it as in tuna juice.I apply AFTER watering.I have red hot pokers.I love them actually. They are in a pile combo of "red hot poker/catmint/babys breathe".they washed together last year cause I needed a lesson that if your bed runs downhill all the seeds will wash to one spot.so now know to make mounds of dirt to keep this from happening this year, but loved that combo& will do someday in a container.I wouldn't think divideing would do but you said had never bloomed.you don't get bone chilling cold so thats not it.
lilly planting...3 times diameter of bulb.

hollar back and may here from sis by then.shes TN

I chuckeled Weezie...you watch too much QVC [Smile] They give you discount???
