Hello to all, My name is Dad, and I am new to gardening. I just finished moving into my new house and have cleared close to 1 full acre of land out back. I was hurt at work 3 years ago this month, and will not be returning back into the work force. I have a bad back and have decided to take up gardening as a second hobby. I really would like to plant a bunch of trees, and am looking forward to finally having the veggie garden of my dreams. I have 3 kids who are willing to help me in this adventure, and will be asking a lot of questions. I have been viewing these pages for some time now and figure it was time to become a member. Thanks for having such a wonderful site. Looking forward to getting to know you all. Thanks Dad

And another So. Cal welcome. Glad you joined us. What zone in Cal are you? I'm in Z9 ( Z18-19 in the Sunset Western Garden Book) slightly elevated above San Bernardino. Happy to meet you. Ask away.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Well first off I am in the High desert of california... Palmdale Lancaster Farmlands up in the eastern hills. I have been in the process of drawing plans, and will be taking pictures today of the complete property. I was kinda hoping for a womans touch in helping me design the backyard. I want a garden approx 100x50. I also want to build a Compost pit/with worm growing area. I have got 2 nice pine trees started out front of my house, and a few mix wind break trees planted out along the side. My kids cant wait for a veggie garden and we are looking for all diffrent types of seeds. Pumpkin...squash...onions...and the list goes on and on [Smile] It is kinda hard to get alot done due to my back injury....but hey Im 40 retired and have nothing better to do. Looking forward to seeing a few sketches or ideas on how my backyard layout can look. Thanks
Dad,
who loves pillow fights and popcorn.
