I'm not sure I'm in the right forum for my Q, but I've looked and haven't found a better one. I'm getting a digital camera for the first time for Christmas. I'm asking about features to look for (or avoid). I don't want to go high-tech nor high price. If I drop it in my pond in a year, I don't want to CRY about it. I know I want at least 5 pixel and would like easy to find batteries and mem. cards. But that's about all of the knowlege I currently have and I'm only fuzzy about that. Any help out there? Thanks~Tina

My camera is getting "old" but still works good. It is an Olympus and when I replace it I will get another Olympus if I can find the right one. As far as batteries, when I bought my camera I bought a battery charger and rechargeable batteries, I bought 3 sets, as mine takes two batteries, that way I always have a fresh set in my camera bag.

Thank-you. I should have 'searched' the topic before asking. Of course it's been discussed. I'm soooo excited about getting one and choosing it myself, but not being techno-savvy, I came straight to my garden buddies. Have read the posts in the link and my IQ jumped a point. Thanks again.~Tina

jonni13 I have a Kodak digi not too proud of it but it does take good pics. If I was to get another one I would get one with a docking station and printer. My computer has a card reader which sure makes it nice and easy to download pics. Also most camera cards can be bought just about anywhere anymore. Get the largest card you can for the camera you wont be sorry as you can store a lot of pics on those cards. I find most of mine at Best Buy or wallyworld not much difference in price. Good luck and make sure you post those pics for us all to enjoy. Jimmy

Hi. I vote for Fuji........ 5.2..........low price and good preformance.. I bought a large card......And a battery charging cradle.........The cradle has the battery and you put just that one in the camera, and put it in the cradle.. Charges like a cell phone.. I enjoy mine. The Macro for photos is great. Only draw back, too large for email. dodge

You want to get the HIGHEST megapixel and the highest optical (Not Digital; digital is no good) zoom that you can afford. I use an Olympus D-580 zoom with 4.2 megapixel, 3X optical (12X digital, which I never use} camera. I am now looking at a Canon EOS rebel XT SLR camera for about $1,000.00 with a $1,000.00 zoom lense. It is 8 megapixel and your zoom power depends on what type of lense you use.

Here is a picture I took of a Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly this summer in a neighbors garden with my Olympus Camera. I was about three feet away from the subject.

Dodge, You can use Adobe Photoshop 7 or other Photo manipulation programs to reduce the size and megapixels of your pictures without reducing the quality.
