I got my first seed catalog for 2006 yesterday. From Pinetree Garden Seeds. Pinetree is always one of the earliest, but I think this is a new record. I remember when seed catalogs came out the first week in January. And here I just got my last planting of spinach and corn salad out on the 5th, and my mom came over last Wednesday to plant her last lettuce of the year. That and the spinach are to overwinter for the first spring crops.

I remember when I worked at the VA Hospital we had a man as a patient there, whose last name was Burpee. He was from New England and was a nephew, or grandson, or something, to the founder of the Burpee Seed Company. He told me that every single person in the U.S. whose last name was Burpee, were official board members of the company. He gave me a bunch of catalogs and I remeber ordering almost $100.00 worth of their Parrot Tulip Bulbs. When they bloomed, they were the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen. I have always gotten their catalogs since, and have added Jackson & Perkin's catalog to my favorite. Which reminds me, I better go to the websites and order my catalogs for this year right now!!!
