Have 85 gal fish tank just outside the living room window on a front porch...nothing fancy just 22 gold fish that are about 3-4 inches long, and 3-32 gal pre-formed, one near the entryway and two in the backyard. Have two water fountains one in front yard/one in backyard, which used to have fish, until the birds discovered them.

Did you know that fish don't like to swim in cat yuck for hours and then my daughter didn't know they have a hardtime getting along in chlorine filled tap water !!!!! He is now flushed to sea and maybe my daughter will remember him everytime she goes and swims in the ocean. LOL

Great pickle tip- I gotta tell that to my Mom, who has a Koi pond in her Japanese garden.
We just recently got a 2.5 gallon tank for our fantail goldfish "Shoeless Joe" and his little pal Trickster the Aquatic frog. They've been doing very well and are so much fun to feed and watch. We love them.

Hi All! We have a 30g frshwater planted tank with neons, dwarf rainbows and a couple cherry barbs. A 20 gallon which is home to a goldfish and a few guppies. We also have a tub pond which is home to a huge Cypress plant and more guppies. We had a fish room set up several years ago..raised African cichlids for awhile---more money and work involved than we needed trying to start up an aquarium maintenance biz. Most of the empty tanks are being turned into terrariums now!

Why do Betta Fish make bubbles at the top of their water?? Anybody know??? It's like a cover over his water, in one little spot, behind his little house?? Like a hiding spot or something.
Anybody have the new Betta tanks with the lights and things?? Just curious!!

Thanks JC, NO KIDDING???!!! I was wondering about that, The one was doing it and the other one wasn't. 2 different tanks, and I filled the water one day apart from each other, so I know one water wasn't "riper" than the other....... We were wondering about getting girlfriends for them, seeings how they can't have other males or other fish in the tank.....
Is there any type of fish/animal that can go in the male betta tanks that they won't fight with??

I had little neons in the same tank with my beta. He left them alone. I made the mistake of introducing an angel fish....The beta thought the angel fish's little dangelies were bait and nibbled them all off. Ewwwwe! Had to separate them. Breeding betas is a little tricky, 'cause dad wants to dine on the little ones after hatching. There are special little containers that go inside the tank to keep the little family apart while the babies are growing..Hmmm, I saw a site somewhere...

JC, That's what I thought about the babies, I had rabbits, and never knew that about the daddy, and he nibbled on a couple before I realized it, hey, I was about 10, never knew fathers ate children, thought they just yelled alot!! LOL A lesson learned the hard way at age 10, broke my wee~pickin' heart. But I thought the same for this breed, being so agressive... I've heard that sometimes, if they see another fish in a tank, they'll jump out of their tank and on to what ever, floor, table, etc. Mine seem very, very friendly!
I have seen those tanks for the wee~ones in the fish store, actually, I have a girlfriend that has I think some little and she has a tank for her's too.
So the girls' can stay in there then, I just don't want to buy one and they get attacked too!!! When I go back I'll have to look for some chicks.
I would like to get those tanks for the betta's that are smaller little hexagon ones with the lights and filters... Seems like alot of water changing.... Saw them online for about $40.00, not sure that's in my buget for even one.....Lotto time!!!
Thanks for the info, any other info would be great. I've just gotten them and am not too well versed on them...
And I gotta find out why fish think they are so hungry and why you shouldn't feed them much if they look and act hungry??

I gotta find out from njoynit about that pickle. Sounds interesting...

How's everyone's fish....?? Just wondering!!
We had gotten a snail awhile back and it passed away , But the boys wanted another one, I was a little bit apprehensive about buying another one!! So, I talked with a salesman, and suggested some algae tablets, and I got another snail, Well, I think that was the trick............
But the funniest thing about this guy is, he's like a dog (they all are actually) but this one inparticular... At night time every third day or so, I'd drop in the one tablet for the algae and he'd be there, and we started to feed him, we have dried blood worms (e~ww~eeeeeeeeeeeeee) but I'd sprinkle one in and he'd grab it, oh, I should say he was stuck on the side of the tank right where the opening is to feed them, the tank top can not come off, there's only the one area where the light is and two small holes, like for air, we use them to feed the food through so we aren't always opening the top and scaring the fish...) Anyways, when he's on the side of the tank, you can watch him eat, it is quite entertaining, even for adults!! But every once in a while (more now) he'll stick himself to the glass and I'll say 3/4 of the bottom half of him is stuck on the side of the tank, the top 1/4 is laying back, starts out flat like, but ends up in a funnel shaped!! So, I started dropping one or two of these blood worms.. And we can actually watch him eat the worm.. I know it sounds pretty bad, when the whole family is sitting around in amazement at this snail eating, but it is so amusing!!!
We offically named him "Slow~poke".
We had Santa bring two 2 gallon tanks too. So, we'll be getting some more fish soooon!
But, the other reason why I posted this is for a question?????????????
Another long story here, I bought a live plant, (a banana plant???) and it had tiny brown spots on it when I bought it, but she said they do that, just to pinch them off if they get toooo bad looking, (I never really did) and it floated around, looked ok, nothing bad...we cleaned the tank once, (not completely, it's a newer tank, only since what, Sept???) and I did stick the plant into the stones abit cause the water was down, another time the HUGE goldfish that started it all, GOLDIE, knocked it out of the anchoring, and I just left it, an it started to look bad, one by one the leaves started to get yuckie and fall off....it was almost down to nothing..One half rotted leaf and one itsy~bitsy~tiny~teenie~wiennie little nub off the top was coming out of it...Another trip back to the fish store and said the plant was dying they said you had to push it into the rocks for it to live?? I said, well, no one told me that when I bought it, Hmmf! Now, I did stick it in one more time, Goldie got it again, and it's been floating ever since, but now..................... But, that nub is now to one end of the tank, twisted around the other way and heading back in the same direction it came from>>There's another huge on and it's sticking it's head out of the water and it's got good sized leaves on it, say about 1 1/2" leaves, and two more sprouts coming along!!! Now, what did I do, or not do to get it to this length?????? And is it bad for the tank??
Nothing looks bad, no real algae to speak of, with little sucker fish, snail and two bottom feeders, there's nothing really

The only thing I can tell you about ich is that it is highly contagious, certain fish are more succeptible than others (can't remember which ones - haven't had a tank in years), and shows as white spots on the fish. Pet stores do carry medication for it. Good luck.

Ich is a fungal growth that shows up like little white spots on your babies. It's easily medicated but it's a good idea to isolate the fish that's showing it (unless impossible). There's several different kinds of medication (Ich Away, I think is the name of one). Be sure to take out any charcol filtration while treating. FYI, it'll stain your silicone in the tank a light blue which may eventually leach away. Small price to pay for saving the fishies.
