My hair is back to my waist,so its time to do it again. If anyone else has long hair, would you consider it too Even if you don't have long hair, check the site out. They have pictures of the children who have benefitted from this program. Its amazing the difference it makes in their lives!
There is NO CHARGE for the haircut(at participating salons)and NO CHARGE to the childs family for the wig received.

Yes, this is a wonderful program, and I am so glad you are able to participate in it!
When Maxi was 7 1/2, he had his first real hair cut and that's what we did with all that beautiful hair. It had been to his waist for years and the kid has a massively thick head of hair. Now he wears it short and we must cut it frequently. But still, we are glad he had the chance to do this for some other kid.

My daughter did this at age 13 for her mitzvah - a good deed - for her Bat Mitzvah. Turns out that the girl who was being bat mitzvahed with her was also doing it! What the rabbi couldn't get over was that the torah portion these girls were reading was about Sampson!!! And they had decided to donate their hair long before they were given their portions to read - what a coincidence!
G-mom - your hair must grow incredibly fast - they told us the hair to be donated had to be at least 12 inches long. My daughter's was 15".

i though it only had to be 7 inches long?? My oldest neice has donated her haird several times and she's 17. Anyways, its a great thing to do. And that's funny about the Bat Mitzvah. When I was younger, I used to work at one of the synogogues here and when a relative of one of the kids that I usually watched had their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, I was always invited to the party after the service (I usually watched the kids during the service). I've never once seen the service. I'm 1/2 jewish too, but wasn't raised Jewish, so there again, have never seen a service. I was given a tour of the synogogue once tho...that was really neat. They opened up the ark and showed me the Torah. Ohh...it was sooooo pretty.

I thought about it too late. Alex had very long hair, and one summer, we decided to chop it off. Right after she made the first cut... I was all like "daaaaarnit!" I remembered locks of love, and was kicking myself in the butt for it. Alex said if she ever grows it real long again and we cut it off, we'll do it then.
