Has anyone done homemade Christmas Ornaments? If so, describe them and how they were made.
What made me think of this is that Jillie's granddaughter is over this weekend to trim the tree and she showed me the cutest gingerbread man ornament she made from construction paper and white felt.

Well... though I don't celebrate Christmas, I once had to bring some ornaments for a small dinner party when I was a teen...
I made yarn pom-poms about 2 inches in diameter. I used white for snowmen, and red yarn for Santa and Mrs. Claus. I then also used construction paper and cut out the necessary parts for each one and glued them on, and spread out a cotton ball for Santa's beard and glued it on - they were a hit at the party.

Take pinecones, and find some colored popcorn and glue them on the ends of the cone, to make it look like colored lights on the tips of the boughs on a X~mas tree. Card board a round ring and glue to the bottom to stablize it.

Take a piece of card board to make your own stencils.....
Make a large shape of a round ball, put a loop at the top to make it like the hanger at the top, *not the hook part*
Have her cut them out of assorted colored construction paper... And she can decorate the insides with stripe's, circles', snow flakes, glitter glue, etc.

Although I don't handmake ornaments, I do buy tons of ceramic ornaments and then paint them...they may not be very big but I take a long time on them so they look as perfect as I can get them.....I painted a whole bunch of them last xmas and put each family members names on different ones......mom has them up on the tree again this year....and I also attach them to christmas presents with the persons name on them, so they can keep it for their tree....just seems nicer than a gift tag....

Take metal coat hangers, 4 of them, and take 2, Hooks go to the middle, point one end up in the air together, secure with something like a twist tie, or string, or something, the other ends go outward. Do that with the 4 hangers, you'll end up with 2......
Two for each tree............ Put one set inside the other set, and again tie the two points together at the top, bottoms are spread out, after one is placed inside the other, it should look like the out line to a Christmas tree..... Then take a twist tie or string, and start at the bottom with those mini lights, and string along the bottom and twine it up to the top........................... Then take a string of garland and do the same, you make like to secure with string or twist tie once in a while going up the sides to hold it to the slippery metal hangers???????
Then you can plug in your newly made Christmas tree on a table or such.....
Hang some mini~decorations on it.....

Boy, what I wouldn't give for a piece of paper right about now, I can't discribe things like that, it's really hands on I do things...
Did I confuse anyone???

Take metal lids (like when you use those new can openers that open the sides of the cans, not cut into the metal and make sharp edges......) Or use jelly lids or peanut butter lids???
Take those pretty paper doiley's you'd use on the tables for drinks or under a charger plate for dinner???
Glue that to the back of the metal lid... so the doiley hangs out from the back side of the lid... Then put a picture of your granddaughter in it or a card picture from the X~Mas cards again... To finish the edge use some type of color appropreiate cord or ribbon for the holidays....
Glue string in a circle for the hanger...

Take the doiley's and fold it in half, and half again, and I think one more time. Then take your scissor's and make cuts into it like you used to for snowflakes..
Open it up and you've got pretty snowflakes with the doiley's....
very pretty.... sometimes there's a spray type glitter glue and you can sprinkle sparkles all over it **I use the opalescents (sp) ones and it looks like real snow.
Put white pipe cleaners on them for hangers and suspend them from the ceiling and make it look like it's been snowing on the inside of your house... (if you make the pipe cleaners different lengths, that also adds a bit of difference to them as to it really snowing)

When I was in Cub Scouts (only a couple years ago...) we carefully opened up walnuts, ate the nut and glued the shell halves back together (with a hook poking out the top). Then we drew designs on them with elmers glue and sprinkled them with sparkley stuff and hung them up to dry!

Ooh~Ooh!! When I was in Cub Scouts last year , we did the walnut thing, but made them into Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer's. (Just the faces, with a red po~pom nose and some little sticks/twigs for his antlers, and some eyes that rolled around and red and green satin ribbon around his neck... Glued a string in the top to hang on the tree....)
And I've also seen them done with the whole body of the reindeer, the one nut as the body, and gold strings coming from them with cinnamin sticks for their legs, and twigs for antlers.
They looked so cute and smelled great
