Awww, Tonya, I really love your picture of the neighborhood squirrel. It's so cute! We have a lot of neighborhood squirrels around here and sometimes they're a pain, but you still gotta love them!

Canon and Nikon; the two BEST brands of camera on the market! Learn to use it well. And Tonya, get a GOOD photo editor. I like Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. You can make your pictures do ANYTHING with a good editor!

Not meaning to hijack your thread here, but take a look at the little theif I caught in our backyard! I even put out a squirl feeder for him with some nice corn...but he prefers the birdfeeders!

in the spirit of the hijack, i always open up the door in the morning and let the dogs come and go as they want till they get breakfast, and i was sitting there with my back to the dining room and the open door and i heard a funny noise and there was a squirrel IN MY DINING ROOM. as soon as he saw me see him, whoosh, out the door he went, (thank God). and the silly dogs just sat there looking at me, like, "what's your problem???"

Tonya your mystery bird is a Northern Mockingbird. One of the more delightful birds to have in your yard. And yes, that is a very pretty Eastern Towhee. It is also a male. The females have the same color brown as the breast on their heads, instead of the black. I have a pair of Northern Mockingbirds, Mr. and Mrs. Mocky who live in my yard yeard all year. I have taught them Beethoven's 5th Symphony, and they have become very used to me letting me walk up to within two feet of them.

After I posted- I broke out the "Birds and Blooms" book that my mom had sent and had thought he was a mockingbird. He let me get to within 10 feet....I didn't do any closer, because I didn't want him to fly away. He was so pretty just sitting there surveying his territory. Very cool bird!

I love my Mockingbirds! I have a special food I make for them and a special place to put it. If they're hungry one of them will perch on a post by my kitchen window and start singing, so I will come out and put some of their food in a dish for them. They almost seem like pets.

Mine are pets or more like really GOOD tenants in my yard. Whenever they see me come outside they fly up close to say hello and ask for treats. I try to keep a bag of apples and an apple corer on hand at all times and a jar of peanut butter (But NOT Peter Pan or Great Value).
