Could this be the leaves of a wild Columbine Aquilegia? Columbine?

Thank you for any information,
Susan

Thank you!

I'll have to take a better look at the plant leaves, received the clump from a neighbor. From what I have seen of the leaves, and the neighbors (she has a bunch) it just looked like they were all dying back some (getting brown edges and some brown crispy leaves, just looking a little tired like a lot of things are around this time of year.

Thanks again!

Susan, they are going into a dormant stage now so you can snip off dead, diseased foliage. The leaves with leaf miner damage should be destroyed, not put in compost. Some of mine that are fully shaded still look half-way decent but the ones that get sun are about fried. It always scares me to cut off all the foliage but they pop right back up in the fall when it cools down or early spring. [Wink]

I don't know if that is "wild" Columbine, Aquilegia canadensis. The foliage is similar in most types so you'll have to see it in bloom next spring to determine which one you are growing.

Thanks Rosie!

Well, I checked the leaves and didn't see any leaf minors, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I'll ck again to be sure.

I used to get those leaf miners inside sunflower leaves. The only reason they were even noticed is because when the sun shined through the leaves, you could see a small lump sticking up and a dark shadow. It looked like a small Caterpillar when I opened the infected leaves up [Frown]

It's good to know I can cut off a lot of foliage and not really worry about it.

I think your right about the name. I did a search with that name and one of the pictures that came up looked like the one I have, the leaves and light pink flowers.

Susan, I was going to check your picture again but you've already removed it or moved it to another location. With the huge amount of allowed storage at Photobucket, there really isn't any need to remove your pix. [Wink] Leaving pix intact that you've posted at a forum will allow others to see them and possibly solve their problem.

As for having Leaf Miners, they make white trails through the foliage so they are easy to spot at a glance. This isn't the best picture in the world but shows obvious leaf miner damage...

Rosie,

What a shocking picture that is! I didn't see any huge lines like that when I looked the first time, just a little something on a leaf near the top of the screen, something squiggly. It's raining today so I didn't look at the plant again yet, but I will if it stops.

I just use Photo bucket to ask about, or show
certain plants, I figured they where probably all looked at as far as they were going to be, so I deleted them.

Here's a link to the columbine again in another album.

I picked them off the comlumbine and threw them away. I didn't see anymore bad leaves, so lets hope that's is it for now. Leaf Miner Damage On Columbine
