Anyone grown desert roses from seed?I have some going.only 1 has a pale green color....WHY?They are in Peat pots.we're sowed 5/11.I sowed 3 kinds 4 seeds each.most have 3 leaves now.And they all but one sprouted.

Great looking seedlings! I have no idea why the one should be like that. I have a probably 6 year old plant with severe problems. I just discovered it's a boron deficiency. It's difficult to find a fertilizer with more than 0.02% boron, the minimum maintenance amount. I'm looking for a restorative. Anyway, here's a site with good info on growing adeniums. BTW, where did you get your seeds?

they were a trade.ones pretty much a red flower,the others a salomaon color and the other was a red that looked almost like had a black center.Not sure what she had crossed them with.she did say some of hers bloomed at only 6 inces tall& sometimes a double flowered one will come out in a batch.

How are they doing now? I just bought some seed (from Taiwan! Isn't the internet amazing?!) that hasn't arrived yet. Any tips on growing them? How is the different one?

The different one fizzled out.I think i've ended up with 3 good ones(well 2 good one hanging in there)the one has not fattened up.and one branched the other day!So THAT excited me.I worry this winter,but glad its short.Seems they need full sun all the time& warmth.so guess its good they didn't all make it.

Thanks for the update, Njoynit. That's a beautiful looking seedling you have there! I think I will plant all the seeds I got when they come in hopes of getting 2-3 survivors per variety.

not very long.I germinated them in that clear tray you see.I poured boiled water over them& closed the lid& left closed till all sprouted pretty much.I misted them daily with AV 7-7-7 fertilizer& still do& they are in full sun mostly ceept for a lil while in the mornings.

And heres an update...... here's a shot of one of the 3 potte up.
of course its a lil bigger now.I'm not going to do as large a pot for the other 2.I'm looking for my azealia pots cause are more shallow...I just have not FOUND them yet.

I now have 8 seedlings about the size yours were in your 30-July picture. One of the varieties I got was supposed to be a variagated hybrid. I guess the seeds were from a cross of the hybrids instead of the parents, as 4 seeds came up albino and slowly died, while the others are completely green. Very interesting. Do you know how long from seed to flower?

The albino ones proably dided due to lack of chlorophyll.when crossed they don't come true from seed but will have some characters of the plants crossed.mine could be similar or different.

I grew hybrid corn one year, saved seed, and planted it the next year for fun. I knew it wouldn't be true, or possibly even good, I just wanted to see what would happen. Boy, did some weird stuff come up!!!

Good day... I am very new here. I really like to have desert rose. I bought some seeds and didn't grow them yet as I am not sure how to do them. I noticed that you mention that you boiled water and pour one them. Won't it hurt them. Do you mean that when I putted the seeds in the clear pot and pour the boiled water on it. Do I need to put holes in the bottom of the clear pot like your. I will use plastic where from the eggs one. Is it okay to use.
After doing that, would I need to water them daily? I really would love to see the seedling. Hope you can advise.

the boiling water sterlizes the soil so if any thing bad is there like fungus it helps elimate it. If you notice.I used what we call peat pellets its a compressed disc that is suppose to be sterile.water makes it expand.I expanded them then stuck the seeds in and added a bit more water.I left my plastic dome closed till they sprouted then moved the sprouted ones out into 4 inch pots. This is 1 seedling I transplanted 1 month ago.Its bigger now. thats a hanging basket pot.I've got some azealia pots in garden shed once I can move around in there .The other 2 are in 8 inch round pots .Nows a good time for you to start your seeds as your haveing spring(I think...I know christmas is summer) I do mist them daily.with fertilzer water.they like lots of fertilizer and will have to watch for spidermites(will be lil yellow babies) Longy another forum member is from down under and can help you name a product over there.it would be a fungicide.if your not sqeemish..........you can squeeze them dead on plant and slide them off on fingers.They also like full sun& TX sun don't seem to roast them.My picture posted is 5 months.I'll get another shot soon& post.

Here is a shot from yesterday.you'll see 1 months growth with full sun& daily misting w fertilizer.
I did the 2 other ones 1 week after the green pot.Thats a KBSxSuprenova brug seedling hanging out with the trio.
I get to stay almost green year round I'm coastal south so have mild winters.I don't fall much below 5 C and if we do hit freezeing is not very long mostly 4-6 hours is all.And just think.......I'll have solved your wintering over of this plant by the time you reach that season.

Ok, Ok, I envy your growing zone, my plants would love your growing zone, everything I have prefers yours to mine, but I get to suck icecycles in January, have the morning sun turn last night's ice storm to diamonds on the twigs, and on rare-gift occasions, the sunset under the clouds turns the day's icestorm to rubies!

I lived a life of zone5 winters salt,snow,ice B4.....lived it for 11 years.I felt frozen even in summer.I use to hang my christmas lights in october& I've had ice cicles from the roof to the ground(yep licked it too and sucked on broke ones) I like my winters MUCH better in zone 8b & grow SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more stuff now.I'm already in zone denial.I'd be in HEAVEN if had a Dome was over my whole yard& never dropped below 50.
I need to mow grass.

Njoynit,I finally noticed one of my Adenuim has a little shoot. I am so excited and worry too. Didn't see the others coming up. Sigh. I really hope this one survive. Our spring here really act weird lately. Been very cool and been raining quite a lot too.
=) I hope my neighbor not going to say I am crazy or nut. I been talking to it and ask it to grow happy and love to have it. Hahaha. Can't imagine I am doing this. Talking to a little shoot.
Hope it will grow and grow as I never a green thumb.

They are moved into laundryroom with my brugmansia cuttings.I've had one drop a few leaves,but its getting new ones also.I still mist them.(I mist all of them a few times a day.They get misted more when run out of laundry stuff and the loads build up)The room does get cool at nite some& I have a grow light bulb in a lamp in there now sitting on a can.

I have some growth on the larger one.I'm still watching it.Not sure if its just branching...or maybe going to grow some buds. I'm voting BUDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
