just curious- do robins usually make nests in the same general place every year? we've had robins make nests in the same tree for a few years and even on the other side of the house. i guess i just assumed that it'd be the same birds- but maybe our area is just so full of robins different ones keep nesting around here- conveniently in about the same spot?

Each species of bird has preferred nesting styles and locations. Many will pick one species of plant or tree to nest in.
Robins make neast mud cup nests lined with soft grasses, usually in the crotch of a tree. They will often nest on a rafter under the roof of a porch or building.
I personally believe that early man got the idea for pottery after finding a baked robin nest or other mud baked nest after a forest fire. The fire hardened mud and cup shape would make an excellent storage vessel. That's JUST a THEORY of mine, though.
