I planted some allium bulbs in a tin planter and have had them in a dark exterior hallway hoping to keep them dormant until spring when I would put them out in the flower bed to take their natural course and bloom around May. The problem is that they have begun to shoot up now! Maybe the hallway was too warm? Should I put them outside now? Will freezing be a problem? Or maybe in the basement where it will be a little cooler. Perhaps I should just give in and let them do their thing now? Any info would be helpful

I've heard they are pretty hardy. You could have planted them outside in the fall and they would have come up in the spring. But failing that I would probably go the basement route and cover the starts with more mulch. I have 3 inches of mulch on mine and they are trying the same thing outside lol. Its just been so warm down here.

Alliums require a cold period to bloom and are quite hardy. Unless your hallway is very cold I would put them outside. The cold weather should stop their growth for now as well. You could cover them up with some loose pine needles or mulch for protection. If your winters are severely cold put the pot on the porch next to the house.

Rock on, Thanks for the advice! I put a bunch of mulch on and put them on the back porch. I think that will do the trick.
