I recently started an avocado tree from seed and it is now around 11 inches high. I would like to know how many years it will take for it to begin bearing fruit.

There is one variety that bares fruit within about 7 years or so I have heard. The traditional type takes 50 years to bare fruit or so I've been told. Hope you have the faster one. I am trying to get one to sprout. Cross your fingers for me please.

Avocado [Persea americana]

Avocados grown from seedlings bear fruit of variable quality in 8 to 12 years. Grafted plants bear in 2 to 3 years.

Pieeater,
It's true avocado seedlings take 5 to 15 yrs to fruit.I got lucky,I had one bear fruit in 4 yrs.this is very unusual but it can happen.Keep your tree well watered and firtilize it monthly for a healty tree.
