hi there! happy late birthday! yeap your mom's right! it's a christmas cactus. they come mainly in pink and red. they also come in yellow but that is pretty rare. very nice plants!

It may be a Christmas Cactus or a Thanksgiving Cactus. They look similar, but the leaves of the Thanksgiving Cactus have pointy ends sort of like a crab claw, whereas a Xmas Cactus has smoother, more rounded leaves.

Happy late birthday, Francine! Mine is coming pretty soon. Christmas cactus are very nice and easy to plant. My sister combines pink, red and white in a same pot.

is it easy to grow,what kind of light does it take;Alan now that you described it i think it may be a tksgv.one i ll have to lookup for a pix of it . Hoa a i ve heard a mix like that is verynice ough to try it one day.Jamie,when is your 20 th birthday,wish i was back there when...lol!!
you know of a good site for learning about seedling,lights taken for growing and stuff like that.

They are very easy to grow. They prefer sunlight and regular watering during the blooming period, less when not in bloom. Overwatering is a sure way to kill it. They prefer cool, dark conditions to set buds, so if you want lots of blooms next year, about 4 to 5 weeks before Thanksgiving put it in a cool dark place and water very little. In a few weeks you should start to see buds forming on the tips, and then you can bring it back out. You may not have to do all this to get it to bloom next year, but you will probably get more blooms if you do.
