Believe it or not, I have never tried growing paperwhites indoors...do they have to go through a chilling period before you plant them? Do they need darkness while waiting for them to come up? Do I plant them in potting soil or gravel?

I'm pretty sure paperwhites will bloom without chilling. You can plant in either gravel or potting soil. They say to discard them after bloom, but I've planted them outside before and had them rebloom the next year. Maybe it was a mild winter.

Wow! Someone must have been reading my mind! I just got through with some paperwhites-I bought a "kit" with 5 bulbs, a pot and the soil. I just put it all together and put it in a sunny window, and they started growing almost immediately. They flowered within a couple of weeks. They're done flowering now and I just pulled them out of the pot-I was shocked to see a fantastic root system, which made me decide to try to save them until it's warm enough to stick them outside-I figure it's worth a try to get them to rebloom-what's there to lose besides another patch of grass?
